I'm a Software Engineer and Technologist working at Salesforce, an American cloud computing company. I joined Salesforce in January 2017 and work primarily on Domain Name System (DNS) infrastructure, networking, and security protocols. Part of my job also involves Internet standards development activities in venues like the Internet Enginering Task Force (IETF).
I serve on ICANN's Root Server System Advisory Committee (RSSAC) caucus. This is a group of technical experts that advises ICANN on the operation of the DNS Root Server System. I also serve on the Program Committee of the DNS Operations, Analysis, and Research Center (DNS-OARC).
Prior to Salesforce, I worked for 3 years as Principal Research Scientist at Verisign Labs, the applied research division of Verisign Inc.. Verisign is an Internet Infrastructure company specializing in the DNS and Network Security.
Before Verisign, I worked for a long time at the University of Pennsylvania in various roles (Programmer, System Administrator, Network Engineer, and Engineering Director). I was the principal designer and architect of Penn's DNS (including DNSSEC), authentication infrastructure (Kerberos, RADIUS, web, etc), and IPv6 deployment. I served as the Chief Engineer of the MAGPI GigaPoP, a regional network operated by Penn that connected universities, colleges, and other non-profits in New Jersey, Delaware, and Eastern Pennsylvania to Internet2, the US national Research & Education backbone network.
While at Penn, I played a prominent role in early adoption, prototyping, and promotion of advanced protocols (like DNSSEC and IPv6) in the US Research & Education community. I served for a number of years on the program committee of the Joint Techs conference, as the co-chair of the Internet2 DNSSEC special interest group, and as a member of the Technical Advisory Committee for the Internet2 network.
I went to school at Penn, and have a Bachelors and Masters degree in Computer Science from Penn's School of Engineering & Applied Science. In addition, I taught a class on Network Protocols (TCOM 504) to graduate students in Penn Engineering's Telecommunications & Networking program.
I live in Falls Church, Virginia, just west of Washington, DC, United States. I am originally from Bangladesh, but have lived most of my life in America. I also lived in the UK for about a decade when I was very young.
